There are many ways people inflict oppression onto others. Stereotyping is one of them. Sadly, stereotyping is learned and internalized from a young age from our families, friends, schools, the media… Discuss stereotypes you learned while you were growing up and how you learned about them. How do you think these stereotypes affected how you behaved towards others who were different from you. Please be honest – this is a judgement-free zone. How have you learned to challenge these stereotypes as an adult?
Interestingly, some stereotypes seem positive.
Why are even the positive stereotypes problematic. (Make sure you use information from the chapter 5).
Using information from the eText, notes, and additional resources, what are other tools of oppression used in our society? Make sure you cite your references.
