Short Responses
These are designed to get you into the thinking of the author. They will not go through the usual rough drafting procedure, but do aim at quality writing and proofreading. They are all quite short, all 350 words (Please do not go over 400). After reading Eric Foner’s “Birthright Citizenship Is the Good Kind of American Exceptionalism” (America Now, p. 218), consider this question:
Do you think birthright citizenship is a good or bad policy for the United States to have in place? Using Foner’s argument as a starting point, explain your own view on birthright citizenship. You can explore both sides of the story (explaining why it is both good and bad) if you wish, but you need to bring in solid examples and evidence to support what you say.
Structure:
All of your writing assignments must be written in MLA style. Please refer to the Writers Reference MLA 1-5 for details.
