For the first major assignment of the Neologism Project, your assignment will be to create a neologism that addresses a cultural problem or need. In other words, you will be making a new word, providing your definition of that word, and arguing for how that word addresses the problem you see.
At this early moment in the assignment, you need to consider the problems or needs you see and then brainstorm potential neologisms that might begin to address, resolve, or change those problems or needs.
Let’s do some thinking about the kinds of problems/needs you encounter. We’ll use several invention strategies–listing, freewriting, and heuristic questions–to generate ideas, select a topic, and consider your purpose for this assignment.
