Description of the assessment
I need to produce a 3000 +/-10% -word report in which identify a challenge/issue in an
educational context . it needs to be required to apply psychological theory and empirical research findings to critically discuss how
the selected challenge/issue has been, and should/could be, understood and addressed.
The coursework assesses the following learning outcomes: Demonstrate critical understanding of how psychology knowledge, methods and practices
can be applied to education. Apply psychological analysis and explanation to educational topics and issues.
Assessment Content
Reports will need to follow the format described below, providing consistency in approach but
flexibility in selected topic and context. Writer must not exchange or collaborate on versions
of the full summative assessment report with fellow students; it must be their own work. Writer are required to provide a full reference section in APA format at the end for all
citations made. References are not included in the total word count. Writer will be required to apply psychological theory and empirical research findings to critically
discuss how the selected challenge/issue has been, and should/could be, understood and
addressed. Writer should mostly use journal articles to inform their independent learning and to
support their coursework report, although some texts are also provided in the module reading list .
1. Title of report (not included in the word count)
“[selected issue/challenge] : A critical discussion of ways in which this has, should, and could be
addressed”.
Students will use the above title but include their selected issue/challenge in the first section of the
title.
2. Describe and discuss the issue/challenge (1000 words*)
Here students will need to set the context for the report, remaining focused and clearly describing
the selected issue/challenge. This should be in reference to empirical research findings and applied
psychological theory. Whilst the issue/challenge might be briefly discussed in a broader context
initially, it is important that students explicitly refer to the population(s) and context(s) of interest
for the purpose of the report. Examples could be children in formal education up to the age of 11;
adults in higher education in non-Western countries; teenagers outside of mainstream education;
children transitioning from primary education to secondary education in the UK, etc.
3. Addressing the issue/challenge (1500 words*)
Students should describe and critically discuss practical strategies that have been
proposed and/or tested to address the selected issue/challenge. There should be a clear
focus on the population(s) and context(s) outlined in the preceding section. There should also be explicit reference to the way(s) in which psychological theory has informed the
chosen strategies.
4. Recommendations (500 words*)
In light of the strategies discussed, students should make recommendations i) to
educational practitioners regarding the most appropriate way(s) to address the selected
issue/challenge, and ii) regarding directions for future research. Students should take care
to support their recommendations based on factors such as supporting evidence, practical
considerations, wider social/political considerations, and the specific population(s) and
context(s) discussed.
