For this assignment, you will review a budget and respond to several questions. You will access the Unit VIII Budget Spreadsheet with all the line items for compensation and benefits. Be sure to review data entry cells (line item 16) for 28 third service ambulance delivery EMT employees and 18 fire-based ambulance delivery EMT employees (line item 15). After reviewing and analyzing the compensation spreadsheet, you will identify some basic issues that make up the organizational compensation strategy.
The pay level (pay grade) for both the third service and fire-based positions provides a framework for the minimum and maximum pay of the job in the organization doing the same thing. Both pay levels are laid out one next to another in order to show the entire pay structure.
Using your community as a model and the credentials needed for these positions, level of experience, amount of effort to do the job, and salary and benefits, do you believe the difference in compensation is fair? Do you believe employees will compare themselves to each other if the ratio is not equal to the point of psychological strain within the organization? Why, or why not? Do you think anything should be done to close the pay gap between the two positions? Defend your answer.
