Overview
Choose one topic to explore in depth from the list of essay questions provided to develop an annotated bibliography containing five academic sources and a summary of your research findings.
What is an annotated bibliography?
A bibliography is a list of citations to sources (books, articles, films, websites, etc.) used when researching a topic. An annotated bibliography includes a summary and evaluation of each source. These annotations are written in
paragraph form and should include the following information:
1.An explanation of the main purpose of the source.
2.A short summary of key findings or arguments of the source.
3.Any shortcomings or biases you notice.
4.The value of this work as a contribution to the topic you selected.
The Assignment:
1.Review the list of essay questions and topics and select one.
2.Create a list of sources that seem directly relevant to your topic. The goal is to get a broad sense of what the literature says about your topic.
3.Narrow your initial list of sources down to five. Choose sources that address your topic directly. Try to choose sources that reflect a variety of perspectives on your topic. Look for recent sources, where possible.
4.Read and annotate your sources. To recap, this should include:
An explanation of the main purpose of the source.
A short summary of key findings or arguments of the source.
Any shortcomings or biases you notice.
The value of this work as a contribution to the topic you selected.
5.Discuss what you learned from your research. In one paragraph, summarize the research findings from your annotated bibliography and what you learned from the sources.
*All annotations must be in paragraph form and use complete sentences.
All sources must be cited using MLA format and Times New Roman, 12-point font.
